These images are a different venture for me. As an African American artist, I find that people, when they see my work, often think there is some sort of underlying meaning as a 'representation for my people'. I thought on that as, well, sometimes you just want to draw a silly duck once and a while. That had me thinking, why do so many artists of color have to make work that is about their people? Or rather, why is it expected. So, to follow suit, here you go. I am not sure what these mean to me, past their initial reaction, but technically I do enjoy them. The subject matter has always been a fascination with me, and how the images were used from everything to dolls, to advertisements. That baffles me. So, in the spirit of that, I have taken the imagery and revives it. For good or bad, who knows, but here it is, my contribution to the cause. Enjoy.
